As frightening and stressful as a cancer diagnosis can be, the financial burdens associated with cancer care can be just as taxing. With cancer care costs rising on every front – from diagnostic testing to hospitalization and highly effective medications – many patients simply can’t manage both the out-of-pocket expenses associated with cancer care and their other financial obligations. The clinicians and staff of Regional Cancer Care Associates, one of the nation’s largest networks of oncology specialists, understand this harsh reality. That’s why they have joined forces with other caring individuals and organizations to form RCC Charities, a non-profit organization committed [...]

Being diagnosed with and treated for cancer can be one of the most challenging and stressful experiences in a person’s life. Paying for the everyday necessities such as your mortgage/rent, utilities and food shouldn’t be, however. But unfortunately, with the costs of cancer care rising on every front – from diagnostic testing to hospitalization, patient out-of-pocket costs, and specialty drugs – many patients can’t manage the very real financial burdens associated with cancer care and are subsequently unable to access the life-saving treatment they need. The high costs of modern cancer care and patient out-of-pocket expenses for everything from diagnostic testing to hospitalizations, therapeutic procedures, specialty drugs, and more have led many cancer patients to experience a new and equally stressful condition known as ‘financial toxicity.’ “The rising costs of everything recently, including food, utilities, transportation, fuel, etc., have brought the concept of ‘financial toxicity’ more to the forefront than ever,” shared Ethan Wasserman, MD, medical oncologist with the Howell, N.J. In fact, a study of 254 cancer patients found that 46% reduced spending on food and other basics to help cope with the cost of their treatments.1 “Meanwhile, other studies show that patients facing financial burdens are less likely than other people with cancer to adhere to their [...]

After two months of growing mustaches and beards and maybe even a goatee or two, the Sparta Township Police Department has once again shown its dedication to making a difference. The department recently donated $2,840 to Regional Cancer Care Charities following a successful campaign during “No Shave November & December” to raise awareness and funding. The department’s generosity and assistance will help RCC Charities empower patients so they can concentrate on recovery, rather than daily living. RCC Charities is dedicated to helping individuals with cancer pay for indirect living and nonmedical-related expenses not covered by Medicare or other health plans, including [...]
Cancer treatment often carries hidden, related costs not covered by insurance. For some people, this means struggling to pay for transportation to treatment facilities, child care, groceries and other nonmedical bills. Patients should be able to focus on their health and well-being while undergoing cancer treatment without worrying about its nonmedical burdens and costs. Regional Cancer Care Charities (RCCC) has been founded to help ease that significant distress so patients can concentrate on recovery instead of daily living. RCC Charities is a nonprofit organization that provides nonmedical financial assistance to adults undergoing medical treatment for cancer or serious hematological disorders. RCC [...]
